PS4 news this week includes a positive update for Sony that sees PlayStation secure a great accolade ahead of the tough year ahead against Microsoft and their Xbox brand. Sony PlayStation has managed to wrest control of the video games market from their rivals, but it doesn’t mean it will stay that way.

The PS4 and PS4 Pro are leading the console charts of the current generation and look set to be a bright spot for Sony going into 2019.

And it isn’t just the PlayStation 4 that has been winning the company top accolades over the past 12 months.

While the PS4 continues to sell well, a lot of that is probably down to the exclusives the console currently boasts.

And it’s now been confirmed just how popular the most recent Spider-Man outing has proved with fans.

Having been well-received by fans and critics alike, it has now been reported that it is the fastest Superhero Game in the US.

And not just the United States but probably in the history of the superhero gaming genre as well.

This puts it past the hugely popular Batman Arkham games, no easy feat considering how well they sold on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The news was shared by Mat Piscatella, an analyst with the NPD Group which tracks the market and industry trends.

“Bonus November 2018 Video Game market sales data update from The NPD Group – Over the first three months in the market, Marvel’s Spider-Man is now the fastest selling superhero game in US history,” Piscatella revealed on Twitter.

Now, this big update does come with some issues, such as not knowing what counts as a superhero game, as well as what the actual figures.

That information wasn’t shared, but regardless, this has to be seen as great news for Sony PlayStation.

Not only is Marvel’s Spider-Man an exclusive, but it’s also offering further sales expansion through DLC.

The conclusion of the three-part DLC series was released earlier this week and is called Marvel’s Spider-Man: Silver Lining.

“You can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Silver Lining on PlayStation Store. Of course, if you haven’t tried any of the post-launch content yet, you also can buy the Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps bundle of all three chapters.

“Haven’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man yet? The Digital Deluxe Edition is an especially good value, as it includes the full game and all three chapters of Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps.”

Other news was also released about the PS4 this week, regarding how it’s performing against the PS3 in key regions.

According to VGChartz, the PS4 has outsold the PS3 by over 300,000 units through 2018 until October in Japan.

 

“October 2018 is the 57th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale in Japan,” the report reveals.

“The gap grew in favour of the PlayStation 3 by 9,471 units in the last month and in favour of the PlayStation 4 by 320,031 units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by just 326,49 units.

“The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 7.16 million units, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 6.84 million units.”

It should be noted that this information comes from one region, with the PS4 reportedly selling incredibly well last month in the United States.

It’s even been reported that October 2018 unit sales reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002.

And this has apparently extended to November, with the latest NPD data suggesting that all three consoles scored massive sales last month.

“PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch each sold more than 1.3m units in the US during November 2018, the first time any 3 Console platforms have sold more than 1m units in the same November,” a second message from Piscatella adds.

“Great time for Console gaming.”

2019 is expected to see new consoles revealed by Sony PlayStation and Microsoft, meaning these latest numbers can only be seen as a positive step ahead of a very important year.
