CALL OF Duty Black Ops 4 will be the next major COD launch to follow WW2, and evidence is mounting that another game could launch with it, something like Bo2 or MW2 Remastered.
Activision have not yet revealed their 2019 plans for the Call of Duty franchise.
However, through recent sources, it has been revealed that the next major release will be Call of Duty Black Ops 4.
Not only that, but separate reports also indicate that it could be the first COD game to launch on Nintendo Switch.
Developers who specialize in Switch ports have spoken recently on the sudden uptick in demand of their services, meaning that Black Ops 4 could be among them.
This new release from Treyarch will apparently tone down on the futuristic setting, having seen the success laid by COD WW2.
More modern weapons could feature, although, most of this won’t be confirmed until April or May by Activision.
There have also been rumours that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will arrive with a new Remastered game in 2019.
Again, nothing official has been released by Activision on the subject, although there’s mounting evidence that we could see something extra arrive.
The latest news has been supplied by a 10K form filed by Activision with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
It included some solid information on what the company is planning to do this year when it comes to new game releases.
In it, Activision reveals they are planning on releasing new remasters this year. And while it doesn’t go as far as to name Call of Duty as a franchise included in that list, it does bode well for those recent reports.
While fans have been hoping for MW2 Remastered this year, or next, there’s also a big chance that Call of Duty Black Ops, or Black Ops 2 could be getting the remake treatment.
Both proved popular re-releases through the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program, and would fit with the knowledge that Treyarch are handling this year’s project.
Here’s the information from the 10K Form, which states: “We expect to release World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth and our latest Call of Duty game in the second half of 2019.
“In addition, we expect to deliver ongoing content for our various franchises, including expansion packs for Hearthstone and Destiny 2 , in-game events for Overwatch , and map packs for Call of Duty: WWII , as well as releases of remastered versions of titles from our library of IP.
“We also expect to release at least two new mobile titles during 2019, including a social casino game from King.
“We will also continue to invest in new opportunities, including new titles across our platforms, and continue to build on our advertising and esports initiatives.”
While it would make sense that Black Ops 2 – still hugely popular with fans – would be the project being released this year, there’s always the possibility of MW2 Remastered being included instead.
It’s likely that Raven Software would be involved in the new Remaster project, like they did with Modern Warfare Remastered.
It should also be noted that this could involve an entirely different franchise and not include a new COD game at all.
A new Spyro remastered trilogy is reportedly in the works, while this latest report from Activision could also be referencing Crash Bandicoot ports coming to PC and Nintendo Switch.
The first remaster project handled by Raven Software proved a big hit with fans, although it was initially released as part of a bundle with Infinite Warfare.
